→ What made you join the construction industry?
You could say construction found me. After a software distribution center I worked for closed in 1996, we were offered the services of Community Action Partnership to learn new skills. After completing a basic computer course and working with a temp agency, I landed my first job with a construction company in 1997 as its PlanRoom administrator and never looked back.
→ What do you like best about working in construction?
Knowing that I played a role in a project once it’s completed.
→ What do you think the future holds for women in construction?
I think the future is very bright. In the past five years or so, I have seen so many young women here at Ames starting their careers, from estimating to field engineers.

Take chances, be flexible, and ask lots of questions.

→ What advice would you give women looking to join the construction industry?
You will face many challenges along the way. The job is fast paced and can be stressful. Work hard, help out, and be a team player. The challenges get easier with time.
→ What has been the most memorable moment in your career?
When I became part of the “A” team and got my first seat in the crane. I realized that I was working for a company that appreciated their employees regardless of gender. I knew that at Ames, all the hard work was not unnoticed. That was when I knew I made it.
→ What makes you proud of working in the construction industry?
When I drive over a construction site that I was part of and see the finished project. Knowing I took part in it is the best feeling.
