Preconstruction Services at Ames: Paving the Way for Successful Projects

Ames Construction’s preconstruction process is designed to meet project goals and generate value for project owners. Through an integrated approach to project delivery and a streamlined process, we partner with clients, designers, and project stakeholders to achieve exceptional results.

Here’s how we do it:

  • We identify and mitigate risks. Risks can have substantial impacts on a project’s cost and schedule. Ames works with the entire project team to develop mitigation strategies, tracking risks throughout preconstruction and construction until they are eliminated.

  • We support the design and decision-making process. With nearly 30 years of alternative delivery experience, we know the information owners need to make timely decisions, and we present that information as efficiently as possible. Integration with designers and thorough constructability reviews help us produce a clear picture of the impacts that design decisions have on schedule and cost.

  • We identify and analyze innovations. Our approach to developing and evaluating potential innovations has resulted in the approval of more than 1,000 alternative technical concepts and the implementation of hundreds of value engineering concepts. Our projects have been honored with numerous innovation awards, including prestigious value engineering awards from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

  • We provide transparent cost estimating. We build trust through an open-book estimating process, giving owners confidence that they are receiving a fair price for construction. The cost negotiation process is streamlined and efficient, ensuring cost certainty throughout construction. As a testament to our success, clients have validated bids on all of our progressive design-build (PDB) and construction manager/general contractor (CMGC) projects completed to date.

At Ames Construction, our goal is to do right by our clients and the communities where we work. The preconstruction process is a critical step in achieving this goal. Our success is evidenced by the countless awards we’ve received on more than 65 alternative delivery projects with a combined value exceeding $12 billion.

By taking a collaborative approach to preconstruction, we pave the way for successful projects. Learn how Ames applied its preconstruction expertise to expand an intermodal facility.
