Building a Bypass—and Relationships
Ames Construction crews are busy building the final two sections of the much-anticipated U.S. 74 Shelby Bypass in Cleveland County, North Carolina.
Work includes mass grading, utility installation, and the construction of 6.1 miles of roadway, including nine bridges.
To date, crews have moved 1 million cubic yards of material. The installation of storm drain and water main systems has also begun, and crews are engaged in ongoing erosion control efforts.
The Ames team is also focused on developing strong working relationships in the region. The full project team gathers each week to review safety, schedule, and operations. Field leadership works hand-in-hand with inspectors.
In 2024, the project hosted a dinner and site visit for a youth organization and contributed to Ames’ collection and donation of toys for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Team members have also enjoyed exploring everything Shelby has to offer, from the American Legion World Series to the annual Liver Mush festival!
