Murdock Canal Enclosure

Ames enclosed a 21-mile segment of an existing open irrigation canal (the Murdock Canal in Utah) in a 126-inch-diameter welded steel pipeline, boosting safety and water conservation.

The project scope included the installation of air valve and blow-off structures, modifications to existing diversion structures, 40 turnout structures, 34 street crossings, and 500 utility relocations. Ames self-performed 170 utility relocations and protected in-place utilities.

Because the environmentally-sensitive project was constructed in a relatively narrow right-of-way in an urban environment, the project team prioritized efforts to coordinate with municipalities, governmental agencies, adjacent landowners, homeowners, and businesses.
