Ames Construction is building a new north-south roadway connection for the City of Flagstaff, Arizona, using a progressive design-build (PDB) delivery method. Crews are performing corridor improvements along Lone Tree Road, extending the road to historic Route 66, and constructing a grade-separated bridge over a rail corridor.
Because the overpass is being constructed over existing railroad lines and within a flood control project area, the design and construction require a high level of coordination between numerous stakeholders including BNSF Railway, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The construction will include both new roadway and the widening of existing roadway, one new intersection at Lone Tree Road and Route 66, three additional rebuilt intersections, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, trails, and landscape, utility, and drainage improvements. Construction will continue through 2026.
