Ames Construction was the prime contractor for this five-year contract mining development and reclamation project.
The work scope included preproduction stripping, drilling, blasting, hauling, and the mining of 17 million tons of ore and waste. Crews crushed and loaded the ore into rail cars for transport to the processing facility. Upon completion of the mining work, crews hauled the waste materials back into the mine to reclaim the pit areas.
Because the mine was located on an environmentally sensitive site immediately adjacent to the Chippewa River in Wisconsin, Ames performed all of the work under the continuous scrutiny of the state’s environmental agencies and other stakeholder groups.
