Ames Construction was awarded the first major grading project for construction of the Denver International Airport (DIA), and it maintained an active presence until conclusion of the site work. Ames successfully completed six major contracts as a prime contractor and more than 40 contracts as a subcontractor.
Infrastructure work performed by Ames included earthwork and excavation, structural concrete, installation of sanitary sewer and storm sewer box culverts, and the construction of eight bridges on the circulation road system surrounding the terminal. Ames’ on-site batch plant and transit mix trucks provided more than 400,000 cubic yards of flowable backfill to Ames pipe crews as well as underground contractors working at the site.
Ames also completed a series of DIA expansion projects as a prime contractor including initial grading of the sixth runway and construction of new wetland mitigation areas. Ames served as the grading and utility subcontractor for a commuter parking lot and the air cargo apron/taxiway expansion project, and also contributed to a project that relocated the parking revenue facilities to the main terminal parking.
