Ames Construction performed grading, storm drain work, and concrete paving for a 250-acre expansion project via a Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC) delivery method at the Alliance Intermodal Facility in Haslet, Texas. Throughout construction, Ames coordinated with the client’s operations team to ensure safe working conditions and minimal impacts to the busy facility.
Two new buildings were constructed at an accelerated pace. Construction of a yard hostler maintenance facility and an employee building was scheduled to take 12 months. Despite many design changes throughout the course of construction, Ames completed the buildings in just 8 months.
The project included construction of three new intermodal parking areas, a container and chassis stacking lot, underground drainage, electrical, telecommunication duct banks, and water and sewer utility relocation. Crews also built 12 miles of intermodal track. Challenged with identifying many unknown underground utilities, the team resolved relocation needs quickly to keep construction moving forward. For paving, Ames produced nearly 400,000 square yards of PCCP on-site using a concrete batch plant.
In addition to the nearly 50,000 linear feet of traditional storm drain work, Ames collaborated with its pipe supplier to design and produce more than 16,000 feet of corrugated metal pipe, ranging in diameter from 60 to 96 inches. This pipe was produced on-site by the supplier and installed by Ames to create a large underground detention system beneath one of the parking lots.
In 2022, Ames returned to the facility to perform work on 75 additional acres of expansion, including concrete paving, heavy demolition and site preparation, earthwork, drainage, track work installation, underground utilities, industrial oil water separator, telecom systems, high mast lights, striping, canopies, a chassis repair building, and a concrete waste pit with liner.
